Preventive Services
Keeping That Pretty Smile
We're determined to do what it takes to help our patients
keep their pretty smiles. That means that we provide a broad
range of services to help prevent problems before they happen,
or at least handle them while they're still small. For specific
information on our 'getting to know you' visit, and on how
we deal with emergency visits, please see below.
Our preventive services include:
- Routine Check Ups
- Cleanings
- Sealants
- Patient Education
- Nightguards
- Athletic Mouthguards
- Breath Treatment
The "Getting to Know You" Visit
During your new patient exam, we're extremely thorough. In
fact, you'll want to allow about one to one ½ hours for that
first visit, scheduling your cleaning at a future time. We
set up first visits this way because we know we'll need that
time to get to know you, make you comfortable with our practice,
and consider your oral health concerns.
First, we take a full set of radiographs to check for dental
decay, evaluate bone structure and tooth/root anatomy, and
to search for cysts or tumors. We also carefully consider
your medical history, screen you for oral cancer, evaluate
your existing restorations (fillings, crowns, appliances,
etc.), and examine your soft tissues (gums) and jaw joint
functionality. Since everything we do is projected from your
mouth onto an adjacent TV screen, you won't be bored or wonder
what we're up to. When we're through, we'll make any recommendations
necessary, answer your questions, discuss insurance coverage
and financial arrangements, and determine the extent and timing
of your cleaning.
The Reason We're So Nosy
Our doctors are pretty particular when it comes to finding
out the facts about your medical history. That's because your
general health is connected directly to your oral health.
Plus, drugs tend to have interactions with each other, and
are likely to raise your blood pressure. Finally, we need
to know what's already going on in your body before prescribing
things, giving you anesthetic, or planning treatment that
could affect a current situation. So, we'll ask about ALL
the medications you're taking, question you about allergies
(medications, foods, and any other substances), take your
baseline blood pressure and pulse
Emergencies and Exceptions
If your first visit with us is for a specific dental problem
or an emergency, the doctor will see you and eliminate your
pain—that day or the next day at the latest. she will address
the specific situation, counsel you regarding further treatment,
and may even start treatment that day.
Periodontal Care
Keeping A Healthy Foundation for Your Smile
Gum disease, or periodontal disease, is one of the sneakiest
oral health problems around. It's virtually painless in the
early and middle stages, and very few people recognize the
silent warning signs. But not to worry: we're vigilant on
your behalf, monitoring each and every section of your soft
tissues, cleaning every little nook and cranny in your mouth,
and charting everything we find each time you visit. Of course,
our excellent patient education is geared to help you avoid
it altogether. But even if gum disease becomes a concern,
you can count on us to arrest it, control it, and correct
any damage done.
